When I left for California a week and a half ago, it was cold and wet here.  The tree across our street had bare branches reaching for the sky.

Upon my return, I discovered that Spring had arrived. The tree across the street is covered in white flowers.  In fact, many trees about our neighborhood are covered in similar white flowers.  In all the years we have lived here, I have never noticed such a thing.  I have to think that the cold temperatures and rain (well, cold and wet relative to what we usually get, not to what the rest of the nation gets) has led to this strange and beautiful sight.

Sadly, the weather has led to one sad fact.  My lawn is growing... but only the weeds.  I am not successful in my attempts to hold back the green and prickly tide.

It does not help that one of my next door neighbors believes in mowing weeds over actually pulling them out.  *sigh*

Mowing weeds before they go to seed can be helpful.

Given my neighbor's general attitude toward lawn care, that much planning seems unlikely.

How do we know when it has gone to seed? When the flowers are wilted?

Ideally, you mow before it flowers. Which clearly is not happening here. Sorry.
