Day 23 (of 37) Pants, weight, and food
Jul. 29th, 2006 09:50 amOn pants:
So before I left the US, I bought a new pair of travel pants. REI is a favorite store for a reason. They are thin, with many pockets. They have at least two zipper pockets that will hold my passport easily, thus giving me a feeling of security. I can tuck kleenex in an ankle pocket and feel that it is accessible during a flight, and not generally inconveniencing me by taking up my mp3 player or PDA space. Love the pants.
But they were kinda loose when I left the US. Loose in a comfortable way. I noticed that they have these little snappy things that can make the waist tighter, another feature I appreciated when I put down too much money for them. But I left the snaps in their loosest position for my flight from Texas to Japan.
On weight:
So I had always kinda planned on losing weight in China. Being careful, being paranoid, being sick... whatever. I packed enough food bars to give me two per day for my entire stint in China. And most days I ate at least one.
By the time I traveled from Shenzhen (2nd city, 2nd week in China) to Shanghai (3rd), I had tightened the pants one snap. Not that they would fall of me in the airport, but they were showing a bit of underwear in their bagginess.
On food:
So this week in Shanghai, I got mad at the hotel. Didn't like their food. Didn't like their attitude. Mostly ate one regular meal a day (lunch -- and it was hard to find cooked food at it) and food bars for breakfast and dinner. Dull, but I survived.
And today, as I am packing up to leave Shanghai... I tightened two snaps on my travel pants to make them comfortable for wearing.
Woo hoo!
