book review: Ice by Sarah Beth Durst
Jan. 26th, 2010 09:33 pmGrowing up, I was a huge fan of fairy tales. I read every color of fairy book by Lang my library had. They had a lot. When I found McKinley's Beauty and The Door in the Hedge, it just increased my standards.
I read the back cover of Ice in a book store. It seemed interesting enough for me to hunt down a copy. I didn't realize that it was a retelling of East of the Sun, West of the Moon until I had my personal copy. Since this is not one of my favorite fairy tales, I have to admit that I have probably not read a version of it in over 20 years.
It was...nice. A good modern retelling. I liked the hero more than I liked the heroine. He was lovable enough so her following him made sense. This story reminded me of why I love well done fairy tales.
