Paranormal/action/adventure/romance
I have gotten a lot of recommendations from Amazon for Andrews' Magic series. I read the first one, and it was... forgettable. It sat on my shelf and I did not bother to seek out the second in the series. It was not bad enough to sell, not good enough to really remember. And then the second one came my way. I looked for the third. They grew on me. I really want the fourth one to hurry up and come out.
So when I saw On the Edge on the shelf, a completely separate book by the same authors (yes, a couple), I grabbed it. And it was... good. Really good. Better than the Magic series. It is what so many of these paranormal romances seek to be. I am tired of gritty, tough women with whom I have nothing in common. The main character was completely understandable, very sympathetic. A basically good person doing the best she could in a really lousy world. The hero was... increasingly attractive the longer the book went on. The heroine's objections to the hero were utterly logical, and I think I would have been mad at her had she not had them. In fact, I liked all of the main characters. Actually liking one of the main characters is rare enough in a decent story these days. Liking all of them? Too rare.
I recommend it.
