And my weekend turns out to mostly be about food, interspersed with the occasional adventure.
  • Flying has not improved since I last did it. Kicking, screaming children are still annoying.
  • OMG! They let me hop on a faster connecting flight! They haven't done that for me since 2001!  And with checked luggage???  What were they thinking?!
  • Beet and beet greens risotto
  • Spaghetti & swiss chard
  • Taking apart a closet
  • Cucumbers and hummus
  • Buckwheat pancakes with fresh berries
  • Walking along a beautiful river when it was actually a pleasant temperature (that NEVER happens at home!)
  • Trying to put the closet back together. Who ever heard of actually NEEDING to drill a pilot hole for the pilot hole?!  And a pilot hole for the pilot hole for the pilot hole?!?  This is just silly!
  • Grocery shopping with ovrclokd. She left me too long in Whole Foods grocery aisle. Yummy yummy ice cream...
  • Cranberry pomegranate bellinis
  • parmesan fish sticks
  • Spinach and cannellini dip
  • Ipod speakers and silly songs
  • Apples to Apples
  • Drunken phone call to my husband
  • Roasted cod with edamame
  • Green beans in gemolata
  • Separating black and white lentils -- One moment of distraction in the grocery store led to about an hour of entertainment.  Ovrclokd may be finding tiny lentils in kitchen corners for months.
  • Frittata
  • Salmon on Spinach and spaghetti
  • Eggplant and goat cheese salad
  • Basil-scented lemonade
  • Making trifle
  • Panzanella
  • Red and Napa cabbage slaw
  • Fighting over the trifle. "Mine!" "Mine!" "Mine!"
  • Setting off massive quantities of spectacular fireworks
  • Bugs!  Bug bites!  Ack!
  • Strata
  • Game: What would be too risky to do? Crapping on the front porch!
  • Itchy bug bits in spite of tons of bug spray.
  • Vege bean rice
  • Game: What should a politician not do, because it would likely cost them their career? Perhaps, squawk like a chicken? A dead boy or a live goat? Or crap in the front porch?
  • Berry picking
  • Husband met me at the airport with a beautiful long-stemmed rose
  • And the morning after... I found rainier cherries in the frig.  Husband loves me!  Welcomes me home!

yeah, the fighting over the trifle was particularly amusing. thanks for hanging in there through the pilot holes for the pilot holes for the pilot holes... my sister is now suggesting that maybe my drill bits are dull. didn't know that was possible. now i have a new project...

Some of those dishes sound absolutely wonderful! I am a big cabbage slaw fan, and wonder about the 'red and Napa cabbage slaw'... as well as the 'spinach and canellini dip' (were the spinach and beans pureed together?)

Sounds like you had a wonderful time!

The apples really made the red and napa cabbage slaw for me. It was quite tasty.

The spinach and canellini dip (I made that one!) did involved pureeing. It was disappointingly weak in flavor and we added a bit more lemon and garlic. However, we discovered that the flavor strengthened significantly after a day in the frig. So, perhaps if we had waited before tasting, it would have been fine.

I'm not surprised, actually, that the canellini dip was short on flavor. I have tried several times to make bean dip with canellinis or navy beans, and have always been sort of disappointed. I made one with roasted red pepper, and one with rosemary. I think garbonzos are the best bean for dips/spreads, hands down. Pintos aren't bad either, and black beans are okay too.

I make a red cabbage slaw (grated red cabbage and carrots, some parsley, with a maple-mustard dressing (plus crushed juniper berries!)) which I can eat like candy. Of course, I still like candy, too (chocolate :-).
