Careful diets, increasing exercise, and I still weigh a bit more than I did a year ago.  I am up to exercising 4 - 9 hours per week, 1-3 times a day.  Bleh.  A big time suck.

A few days ago, [livejournal.com profile] aurienne  mentioned working on two hundred situps.  I thought, why not? I might as well add this to my routine.  So, today I'm up to 180+.  Doesn't that sound nice and impressive?  What a great, large number!  But thus far I have had zero soreness.  My biggest problem has been boredom.  Nice to know that I'm in such shape that adding situps does not make me feel any different... but I kinda wish it made me fill a tiny bit different!

If you're building muscle, you'll gain weight.

If you're plateauing, your weight won't change either.

I admit, I haven't really started yet -- delaying till next week, due to snow-vertime getting both off us off synch this week. I'll do it even w/o my husband, but I need the structure of MWF to make it work.

(They also have 100 pushups!)

In my experience, losing weight really has more to do with diet than with exercise. The more calories I burn, the more calories I eat. I've only ever managed to break the cycle by counting calories and limiting my total daily intake. That's not a lot of fun, less because of the hunger than because it turns me into a tedious accountant.

Lots of reps of any exercise generally won't make you sore. If you want to be sore, go use the situp machine at the gym for eight to ten hard reps. That said, I'm very impressed that you're up to 180 situps in "a few days".

Ugh. Counting calories sounds Considerably Less Fun than my current diet, which is negative on the fun scale to begin with. Bleh. How do you deal with parties in those cases? "5 cookies of various size and unknown origin"?

I want to actually sorta ENJOY my life! Some days I have visions of dying in a car accident and thinking, "Dammit! I totally should have had the cake this morning!"

Yes, I'm whining. Sorry.
