Cold clothing
Nov. 15th, 2008 12:40 pmWeather sites insist that the temperature here is mid 40s/low 50s F. And raining. That sounds chilly to my Texas self (the same sites say it is 74F at home right now). I thought hard about this when packing. The typical conflict: keeping warm vs luggage space. The additional conflict this trip was that as I am staying over a weekend, I would actually need some non-work clothes.
My last trip here, I packed my short leather jacket. It looks very cool, but is less warm than you might think. And it does not combine well with my travel jacket. Hard to put over or under the travel jacket. This trip... I went with the REI women's fleece zip-up jacket. Zips on under the travel jacket, and is temperature flexible. When I'm hot, I unzip. When I'm cold, I zip. I didn't tell T my plans, because I knew he would want me to go with the wind and rain proof leather. But it is so luggage space consuming! And carrying it on the plane... I hate people who do that. They suck up my overhead space with their bulky jackets that they could just as well put under their feet (rude, selfish people). And they always put it in first, as if their jacket space is more important than anyone else's carry on luggage. *grind teeth* .... Perhaps I spend too much time on planes.
Anyway. Today, out on the road and wandering the grocery store (which was REALLY cold!), the two jackets worked very well. I was toasty without sweltering. Yay, layering happiness!
