9am sounds like a reasonable time to fly home

Of course, it is an international flight.  And those check-in lines can be surprisingly long.  Plus I have to go through customs on this side.  Ugh.  Checking in 2 hours before my flight is probably pushing the envelope of what will still allow me to get on the flight.

But before I check in, I have to return the rental car.  In theory, it should take me only about 15 minutes to drop off the car, collect my paperwork, and walk to the terminal.  However, previous experince with this rental car agency at this airport leads me to believe that before 10am they cannot find their asses with both hands and 10-person cheering squad.  Better give it a full 30 minutes to deal with their frustration.

Traffic is generally light to the airport, and takes about 45 minutes to drive there.  So that puts me pulling out of the hotel parking garage at 5:45.  

They promised me last night that I can check out any time after 5am.  That plus the walk to the car takes a few minutes... Plus the fact that the parking garage is not OPEN before 7am, so I will have to have the hotel arrange to let my car out.

Crap!  I gotta leave NOW!

Not even going to mention the whole exercise and shower before breakfast problems...  9am.  *disgusted look*

How do you have time to write this? Some things will just have to wait.

That last bit was unplanned

I had budgeted an hour after the wake/exercise/shower and before checking out, to dress/last-minute-packing/eat breakfast. I was sipping soup and blogging, thinking I had another 20 minutes before I needed to check out. Then I remembered about the locking of the car park and panicked. There was much tossing of stuff and shoving on of socks on damp feet and cursing at slow elevators.

I did make it. I arrived at the airport earlier than I had planned, which turned out to be a necessary thing. So it was all mostly good. Except perhaps for my soup wearing off after they had trapped us in the gate area and were saying "Soon" to every "When do we board" question.
