I believe the appropriate time zone for my body is somewhere in the Atlantic. Perhaps Greenland? Sadly, my physical body is in California. The good news is that my hotel has no problem giving me 24-hour access to the gym. What else am I going to do at 4am local time?
The sad part is that I am likely going to become tired (again!) at about 2pm. My students/customers yesterday seemed enthusiastic about suggesting local attractions I could enjoy during my evenings. I did not have the heart to tell them that I was only going back to my hotel to SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP. I barely made it to dinner.
Think the beach is open at 5am? Hmmm... Sunrise over the ocean... Perhaps tomorrow.

Date: 2008-09-18 12:44 pm (UTC)i've found that no matter how offset my timezones are, if i get up at 7am local time, work out, and then eat breakfast, my body says "oh, okay, this must be the new definition of morning" and just... copes. it worked in both tokyo (+12) and nice (+6), and anything can keep me going through 3 solid days of 9-12 hours straight of standards meetings is a small miracle.
also, any chance of a quick catnap between class and dinner? if i set a timer for 20 minutes and lie down, usually i fall asleep within the first 5 minutes, so i get 15-19 minutes of sleep, which is apparently the sweet spot for being refreshed without entering the deeper stages of sleep that leave you groggy. i'm always a little disoriented when the timer pops and wakes me up, but a couple sun salutations are perfect to clear that up, too.
mm, sunrise over the ocean - post a picture! *hug*

Date: 2008-09-18 02:37 pm (UTC)I haven't tried the catnap option. For business dinners after class, I may well do that. I can see it coming in handy on my next trip to Ireland, in which one of my students pretty much owes me dinner for the entire week. *anticipating smile*
