I have to think that there is a Special Hell for the airline employees who cut costs so efficiently on international flights. Small, badly padded seats. High carb, low nutrient snacks. Shorter distances between the back of one seat and the front of the next, and less lean-back angle on each seat. Sitting for hours actually HURTS, even when I take the (last of the) heavy-duty painkillers.
They took our luggage last night. No topping off my carry-on painkillers this morning when I woke at 4am to a pounding headache. *sigh* The alarm was due at 4:30 anyway, so I tried the maybe-a-hot-shower-will-loosen-my-sinuses route. I managed very little breakfast through the pain and nausea. I felt better by the time we had to wait for our ride at 6:15am.
Ugh. An hour bus ride in which I could think of nothing but my over-full bladder (Yes, I went before I left. I have no idea why the bladder could not wait a single hour.).
At the airport they tell us we have two reservations. Careful questioning by me leads to the discovery that our flight from JFK home has been canceled. Hurricane. Which I find WILDLY unlikely considering how far we live from the coast. Rebooked through Atlanta 2 hours later. There were earlier flights we could have made. But nooooooo.....
1 hour bus ride to airport.
5 hours waiting in the Rome airport.
11+ hours on the flight to Atlanta.
4 scheduled hours in the Atlanta airport if nothing goes wrong.
3 more hours on the flight home.
1.5 hours to pick up luggage and drive home.
Do the math.
It is only for True Love that I ever knowingly agree to this nonsense.
