Austria -- a few thoughts
Jun. 1st, 2008 05:40 amOn my flight from Atlanta to Vienna, I sat next to a professor of Music (for teachers) from Utah. We have the same travel shirt, but she was very impressed with my many useful (pants and jacket) pockets and how I manage to sleep on planes (Drugs are good!). She is here for a month of vacation with her family. She warned me about the hot temperatures before I explained about Texas. At about 10:30am, it is actually quite pleasant.
Smoking and dogs are allowed in the Vienna airport. Strange.
The money exchange place was out of Slovakian currency. I made do with a horrific conversion of US to Euros (accepted in Austria). Maybe the hotel can help me.
Driving (by taxi) from Vienna to Bratislava, I see slim modern windmills everywhere! They sit in cultivated fields. The tips of the white blades have red stripes, I guessing to warn off aircraft. The bases of each is a shade of green that matches the field, but lightens going up the shaft to white. To match? To not scare off appropriate wildlife?
Across the border into Slovakia, there are no more windmills.
