Memorial Weekend, a history
May. 24th, 2008 11:15 pmThis morning it felt like the first time in a long time that I have been home on Memorial Day weekend. This is usually on or near my wedding anniversary, so I try to be at least near my husband. But this was pretty specific, so I did a bit of calendar meandering. The last time I was home for the weekend was...
2003 - In the US. In the middle of six weeks of teaching very different classes, many for the first time (= very stressful).
After that,
2004 - Flew to Ireland on Saturday, arriving Sunday. Taught class on Monday. No Memorial Day in Ireland.
2005 - Friday was on a cruise. Got off the cruise on Saturday in NY. Caught flights home that night. Flights were very canceled and delayed. There was much frustration and running. We did get home many, many hours late.
2006 - Went to a pool party on Saturday near home. Got on a plane on Sunday, arriving in England on Monday. Got on a cruise ship Monday afternoon.
2007 - Flew back from China on Friday and Saturday. Got about 23 hours near home. Picked T up (from India), repacked and flew out to Seattle early Sunday morning.
2008 - Home! Home! Home! Spent Saturday generating simulation data for an... Never mind. Statistician geek stuff.
