So last month I sent my briefcase in for in-warranty repair. $5 check, plus shipping is certainly better than buying a new rolling briefcase. It had split a seam and one of the screws kept falling out of the handle. Since it was less than 6 months old, I felt they should repair it.

Just before I set out on this trip to Ireland, I got a box back. It contained a completely new briefcase. At first I was thrilled, but upon examining it I realized that while the paperwork on it matched my sent-in briefcase, it was actually a different model. Similar but not the same. My old one had another pocket, a handle on the bottom, and I think was a bit bigger. This new one seemed... thinner. And had a tag saying "Now 30% lighter!"

I was dubious. Was this a blessing or a cheat?

So after a few days of use.... I think I actually like this one better. It seems lighter when I carried it over the snowy slush a few days ago. And that is pretty valuable to me. While I miss that pocket, I think this one has a better kick plate (you know what I mean? The place you kick the suitcase to get it rolling?). And so far nothing has fallen off or split.

Yeah, change is always hard... but sometimes brings great things! :-)
