Made it. No scary events. Well, none that damaged me or my property. I even got about 6 hours of sleep on the flight over. The sun is shining outside my hotel window. I am going to see how much time I can spend wandering.

Jet lag is a game of how late I can stay up. This is the most difficult day.

Um... Why? And in what context?

In every food context. I swear, every meal I ate out -- except for one where I made firm eye contact and said "NO" -- had peppers show up as an undocumented food additive. I ordered a meat and potatoes dish, and the potatoes had bell peppers in them. I ordered a different meal and was told the vegetable was "carrots and cabbage" ..it showed up COVERED in bell peppers.

It's not that I'm allergic, I'm just intolerant. And pissed off when people charge money for inedible food.

You know, the curry I had for dinner last night had bell peppers in it and they weren't in the description.

Not that I mind bell peppers. My button is potatoes. The Irish seem convinced that they are vegetable and belong in EVERY dish. And on the side. Usually in at least two forms on the side. Undocumented. I have the same conversation with every ordered meal, but on potatoes.

I can understand your frustration. For me, at least, I find potatoes far less offensive than peppers, because the taste of potatoes doesn't contaminate the rest of the meal. It's just a waste if I'm not interested.

I'm envious. My job never sends me anywhere except San Francisco and Chicago. They're fine places, but sort of lacking in pretty greenery and nifty accents.

How's the cold doing? Are you holding it off with Airborne and hot liquids?

I thought I posted a response to this, but it looks like it didn't take.

Better. Monday morning it actually took a turn for the better. I can function through the teaching part without a kleenex under my nose or drugs in my system. Clearly a win.
