Maybe I can make it home tonight, maybe I can...

And then I feel so desperately grateful that the last flight out of my connecting city really IS delayed. And the gate guy hands me a proper boarding pass for it and says, "Relax! The plane isn't even here yet. You are in plenty of time."

Yes, I want to get home before dawn tomorrow. But now I'm GRATEFUL that they may actually get me home only eight hours later than promised upon my ticket purchase?!

Ah, how they have trained us...

*hug* yeah, i've gotten to the point where a flight delay that doesn't a) strand me overnight or b) cause me to miss a connection is just business as usual. and they say the number of air travelers in the US is going to double in the next *mumble* years... I can't imagine this system scaling.
