Have you startled a stewardess today?

indigo_rose99I sat behind the door to my gate, which turned out to be a great place to listen to the gate attendant's Monday morning.
It was before 6am, and she had a plane leaving without all its passengers. At final boarding all 7 of them were missing. She gave them The Lecture with Full Disgust when the first adult in the family trailed in. She let them on, but she didn't want to.
That flight gone, people on my flight started to trickle in. More than half of them did not have seats or were dissatisfied with the seats they did have. First class upgrades were much discussed. There were groups of people she hugged and greeted by name, and apologized that she could not give them all upgrades. After her stern lecture to the previous family, I suspect these frequent fliers of sucking up. Perhaps in their best interests?
The last few seat requests were for seats together, which she firmly squelched. I was almost surprised to see a pleasant expression on her face when she called my time to board and I finally got to see the front of her.
As she ran my ticket, I said, "I have enjoyed watching your morning. Thank you." She paused, with the same expression I would imagine she would give just after being slapped in the face with a dead fish.
She probably does not really look at people like me (quiet, no trouble) and I caught her off guard. *laugh*
