Tomorrow I will try to fly home. It will be a 22.5 hour ordeal if everything goes perfectly. Given the UK liquid scare, the new regulations, and that I can bring no water with me, this promises to be a nightmare. And one that will last longer than 22.5 hours.

Just from watching the news, it is unclear what the US requirements are. I am not traveling to or from the UK, but I am traveling internationally. Beyond liquids, what can I not bring on? I will survive giving up my water and my hand cleanser, putting my shampoo & toothpaste in checked luggage. But what about my electronics? Laptops do not survive checked luggage, particularly when that checked luggage is searched and the careful packing around the laptop is rearranged. I need my laptop to survive. My food, clothing, and shelter depend on it.

I never worry about terrorists blowing up my flight. The chances they will hit my flight are tiny, closely approaching zero. I worry about reactions to terrorism leading me to severe dehydration, illness and lost income because of damage to my electronics.

They may not have blown up any UK flights, but I think we are letting the terrorists win.

We are letting them win, but being over-reactionary and not doing anything actually effective.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it." - Agent K (Men in Black).

The US and the UK are taking advantage of that, even though it doesn't accomplish a damn thing.
