Are you an X-files fan? I was...am.
Watched all of the episodes.  Mourned when it went off the air.  Bought the DVDs as soon as they stopped being insanely expensive.  And let them gather dust on my shelf.

I loved the show, but I don't really like watching scary things.  I especially don't like watching scary things alone.  Yes, X-files counts for me.

About a week ago, I saw an ad for an upcoming movie.  I never pay attention to dates, and most movie ads start airing a month or more before the actual movie.  So I was pretty surprised last weekend when I saw that it was actually in the theater.  Hmmm...  I proceeded to ask everyone I knew about their status as a fan, and would they be willing to go with me.

I was a bit shocked to discover that in spite of many so-called geeky friends... all of my fellow X-files fans are either no longer in my life or... dead.  Creepy.

Insisting on going, I prepped for it.  I dug out my DVDs, and watched Episode 1 of Season 1 and the last episode of Season 9. Yes, just those two episodes.  Restrained, yet informative.

To my further dismay, as soon as I resolved to see it in spite of the lack of enthusiastic fellow fans, all of the local theaters stopped showing it at anything like reasonable times.  Or just stopped showing it entirely.  *glower*   I ended up going to a 10pm showing.  Alone.  *sigh*

And... It was fun!  I liked it!  It was like a two hour episode.  A mystery, no alien stuff.  There was a so-called psychic, but it was all left to me to decide whether he was really psychic or people just wanted to believe he was.  And does it really matter?

The theme seemed to be "I want to believe" and "Don't give up."  These actually meshed well with the last episode of Season 9, which they even provided a transition from.

I feel happy.  I am somewhat bewildered why it is getting such Truly Awful reviews...  Yes, I read the reviews (after seeing it).  I still recommend it to fellow fans.  Maybe less to non-fans.

On The AV Club, they;re reviewing season 1 of X-files, about 3 episodes a week.

Liz here; I would have seen it with you, if I lived in Austin! I know where you're coming from; I'm a big fan, but Mike really isn't. He says he'll go with me if I want to see it, but I know he'll just be doing it to humor me and will probably be listening to a book via his Milestone for virtually the entire thing. *sigh*
